Dealing With Divisiveness

"I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment." (1 Corinthians 1:10)

One of the biggest challenges of the Church today, is dealing with divisiveness. The call of our Lord Jesus Christ to unity, is a vital, and urgent call. (John 17:20-21) But many churches have failed to heed that call, and because of a divisive spirit, churches have declined greatly, and in several cases have even closed.

When it is so necessary today, that the Gospel be preached, and shared by the members of local congregations, how can we let our differences, destroy the main work of the church?

At the time the Apostle Paul wrote this letter, the church at Corinth had four divisions in their fellowship. Some followed Paul, others followed Apollos, others Peter, and the fourth group, followed Christ.

When there is factions in the body of Christ, it only leads to the destruction of that local body. In the midst of our disunity, we fail to act like Christians, and we act more like those in the world. Selfishness, hatred, jealousy, and strife, show their ugly heads, and the love of Christ is thrown out like wash-water. In his letter,

Paul calls them (and us) to be united in the same mind (the mind of Christ) and the same judgment (way of thinking) We are to be like a quilt of various colors and patterns, blended together in a harmonious whole.

None of us are the same, we have our differences. But we are to find our oneness in Christ, as we strive to follow His teaching about love and ministry.

I like what one commentary writer said: "The more low-minded we are, the more like-minded we will become." GP

How To Love Your Life

"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your might." (Deuteronomy 6:5)

As I write this post, there are several people who are contemplating suicide.
They do not want to enter a new year, because they cannot bear any longer, the sorrow and despair, they feel in their hearts.

We could make a long list of things that contribute to this.
But without a doubt it is different things, for different people.

And there are those who are insensitive to this, and say: "Come on, buck up, get over it, it's not as bad as you think." If those who utter such words would walk in the shoes of those who are hurting, they would change their tune.

But here's my thought for those who are considering giving up God's precious gift. How about loving your creator, with a love that is deep and strong. How about loving God like you have never loved any one, or anything before.

Instead of focusing on your life, and the bad of it; why not focus on your relationship with God, and the good that will come from it. You will love your life, when you totally love the Creator, Savior, and Shepherd, of your life.

Spend as much time as you can with Him, in prayer, and in His Word. Look for opportunities to serve Him, in ministering to people on behalf of Him. God will show you opportunities, you never saw before.

In your time with God, you will feel His loving Presence. In your service for Him, you will see His purpose for your life more clearly.
You will be a different person, with a totally different outlook on life.

Yes, you will come to love your life. Why? Because loving God with all of your heart, soul, and strength, will cause it to happen. Try it, and see! GP

Sincere Submission

"And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus." (Matthew 1:24-25)

What is your response to God's will for your life? When you come to realize what God would have you to do, in regards to a certain situation, do you sincerely submit to His will? Or do you look at it as just an option, that you could pursue, if you wanted to.

When Mary was found with child, and Joseph realized that he was not the father, his self-focused option was to put Mary away secretly. Instead of making her condition known to the public, and to the judges at the gate (which would have resulted in Mary being stoned to death-Deuteronomy 22:23-24) he decided to divorce her quietly.

But when an angel came to Joseph in a dream, and told him about God's plan for Mary and the Christ Child, (v.20) he didn't look at this as an option, he looked at it as a command from God. And in response, he obeyed, and took Mary to be his wife.

To sincerely submit to the will of God, is to exercise a strong and determined faith and obedience. To say to ourselves: God knows what is best, we don't. His will is always better than ours.

We may not like the direction that God is taking us, or the task that He has called us to do. But when we look back and see how God is using us, and how He is working His plan in our situations, we will be glad that we submitted to His plan and His will.

God is faithful, but the question is: are we? GP

There's A New Kid In Town

*"There's a new kid in town
And he's lying in a manger down the road
There's a new kid in town
But he's just another baby I suppose
Heaven knows
There's a new kid in town
Here in Bethlehem"

Every year, we are constantly reminded, to have a proper perspective, regarding the Christ Child.
While commercialism and bigotry, crowd Him out, we lose ourselves in the pursuit of selfish gain, and the despair that hangs over us like a dark cloud.

Yes, Jesus was a new kid in town, born in Bethlehem. And yes, heaven knows, and because the angels gave a divine message to the shepherds, concerning this special child, we now know.(Luke 2:11)

But the key to coming to know that this special child,  is the Son of God, and is Savior, is by placing our faith in Him, to save us, and to shepherd us. To know Him as the best friend that we could ever have, is to personally, and constantly, place ourselves in His presence, and walk according to the truth, that He brings to our path.

Like David, each day,  we walk through the valley of the shadow of death. And the reason we can fear no evil, and embrace a confident security in this life, is because the "Christ Child" is "Emmanuel", God with us!

Have you placed your trust in the "Christ Child" today?

Yes, there is a new kid in town! The question is: Does He reside in your heart, and have you given Him, His rightful place in your life? If you haven't, it's time to let Him be more than just a child, but King of your life! GP

The Faithfulness Of The Christmas Couple

Mary and Joseph have always amazed me with their faith and faithfulness. When the odds were against them, they stayed true to the will of God for their lives. They are very good examples for us as Christians. We are to stay true to what God would have us to do, instead of jumping ahead and doing what we think is best.

In the sixth month, from the time of John's conception, God sent an angel to announce to Mary, God's plan for her life. She was troubled at his words. I'm sure we would be as well.(Please read Luke 1:30-36) "God has found favor with you." What did this mean? Gabriel gives her this amazing information: "You will be with child, you will have a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, which means "Savior" The child you will have, is the Son Of God. The Throne of David is His, reigning over the house of Jacob forever. His Kingdom will never end."

Mary does not ask why, but how. She is not married, she is in the middle of the engagement process. But Gabriel assures her that God will do it. "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you." In verse 37 Gabriel makes a statement that we as Christians should never forget. "For with God nothing will be impossible." And Mary responds by making a statement of commitment to God's call upon her life. "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me, according to your word."(v.38)

(Please read Matthew 1:18-25) Matthew says of Joseph, that he was a "just man." Mary's pregnancy came as a surprise, and to him, and to the community, an immoral act. One that would meet with severe consequences. But Joseph did not have all the information. An angel filled in the blanks, with the information Joseph needed to fulfill the purpose of God for His life. In spite of the embarrassment and judgment of the community, he went ahead and took Mary as his wife, and did what God called him to do,

The lesson is clear to us, concerning this wonderful couple. They trusted God, and did what God decreed, instead of following their own wants and wishes. May we always remember that as Christians, we are not are own. We don't belong to ourselves. Every inch of us is to be committed to doing the will of God in our lives.

In so doing, we will feel the reward of fulfilling our purpose in God's sight, and we will have a peace, that will truly pass all understanding. GP

I'm A Sinner?

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.." (Romans 3:23) "Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin."
(James 4:17)

I'm a sinner? When did this happen?

I may have a lot of disagreement about this, but I believe that when a person comes to have a realization of what is right, and what is wrong, and chooses the wrong, that person has entered into a state of sin.

According to our text, the Apostle Paul says that all of mankind has done this, from our first parents, Adam and Eve, until now. When we know the right thing we should do, and we fail to do it, (according to James) we have sinned.

In Ezekiel 18:20 the prophet speaks and says: "The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the faither's iniquity. Nor for the son's iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself."

To me, "sin" is an individual choice. If we are too young to understand the meaning of that choice, I don't believe that the Lord will hold us accountable. But once we "know" we are held to the standards set forth in God's Word.

Yes, I'm a sinner. But I am a sinner, saved by the grace of God,

Have you allowed Jesus to be your Savior today? He will, if only you will surrender your soul to Him today!  GP

Moving Away?

"...if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister." (Colossians 1:23)

If you have lived in one place for a long period of time, it is difficult to move to a new location, and start over again. It was difficult for my family and I, to move to a new pastorate, after being with a church for almost eleven years.

In our text, the Apostle Paul shares with the Christians at Colossae, concerning their response to the reconciling work of Jesus Christ. The Gospel is the precious message of the work of Christ, reconciling the world to Himself. The Christians at Colossae could confidently say, that they had allowed Jesus to reconcile them to Himself. They had (through their faith) stayed steadfast to their commitment to the hope of the Gospel. They had, (as we can call it) "a settled faith." They were not going to let anything cause them to "move away" from the hope they held so dear.

As Christians today; is this the way it is with us? Do we have a "settled", "steadfast" faith, in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Does it show in the way we live? Does our worship reflect this "settle faith" in the hope we have in Christ?

The world lures us, in so many ways, and causes us to "move away." Maybe not all at once, but little by little, we drift away from what we hold dear in Christ. We can, and do, major in minor things, the enemy hopes we will pursue. But when this world is gone, and all the things we used to hold dear in Christ is forsaken; what will be able to hope in then?

Let's stay home with Jesus, instead of trying to "Move Away! GP

Who Can We Trust?

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." (Hebrews 13:8)

I know of people whose lives have been crippled, because the people they trusted, let them down. It is an on-going saga, of disappointment. People make promises all the time, that they cannot keep. Expectations that people make for each other, are not met. Why is this?

My answer to this, is not so much to the "why" but to the "what."
And the "what" is what I call "The Human Factor."

Humans are weak, and although they mean well, and for the most part, do live up to the call to be faithful; They just cannot live up to the expectation of being reliable all the time. It does become crippling, when the word "Commitment" does not mean much any more. And selfishness plays a huge role in contributing to the break down of reliability.

So what should we do concerning all this disappointment?

There is one person who will never let us down, while the people around us do. That is Jesus Christ. As the Hebrew writer says: "He is the same yesterday, today, and forever." (v.8) We can, and should always trust Jesus, in every aspect of our lives. Trusting that in all things, He will bring us through, and help us to not just survive, but to thrive.

If our security is placed totally on humans, or upon the things of this world, we are in store for some great disappointments. But the Lord's principles, purpose, and presence, in our lives is 100% sure.

And this promise I find true and faithful, and one that I bank on all the time: "I will not fail you, or forsake you." (Joshua 1:5c) The Lord never has, and He never will! GP

The Right Reflection

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

One of the men in the church I presently serve, wears a bright florescent green stocking cap, when he is out walking.
When the light beams from cars hit his cap, it shows up very bright.                     Motorists definitely see him, from good distance away.

I believe the light that Matthew speaks of in our text, is the light of Jesus Christ. We are to show the light of Christ in the good works that we do. The good work, of ministering to the needs of those around us. Taking advantage of the opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

As the apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 10:31 "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
The selfishness that has appeared like a dark shadow, in our hearts, has dimmed our light for Christ. The world is not seeing Him totally, but seeing us. It is never to be about us, in our Christian walk. But it is about how we can make a difference for Jesus Christ.

In this dark world, we are to hold out the light of Christ, for people who are lost in sin, and uncertainty. To help people find, as Michael W Smith says in his song: "Place In This World."
Their place in this world is to be with Jesus Christ, now and forever.

With our light, shining from us, they will come to find Him, and embrace Him forever. GP

The Gift Of YOU

"As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." (1 Peter 4:10)

What are you getting your family and friends for Christmas? This is always the question at Christmas. What about the gift of YOU?

As Christians, all of us have been given spiritual gifts that we are to use in service for our Lord Jesus Christ. These gifts are to be used to minister to the world, and "to the household of faith" (Galatians 6:10)

Maybe you are one who is good at running errands for people. In our busy society, there is not enough hours in a day, to get everything done.
You could run errands to help people get done what needs to get done.

Maybe for an older person who has a hard time reading his or her Bible, you could take time to do that. If you are good at car repair, or house repair, there is a need for that. If you are a good cook, you could cook some meals for someone who cannot do that any longer.

There is so much need around us. At this season, and all year through, how can we use the gifts of talent, that God has given us through His Spirit? The best gifts do not have to be wrapped in paper with a bow.
The best gifts are the abilities we have to make life better for those who have difficulties and needs.

As God has shown us His grace through His Son, let's show that same grace to others, and walk in the land of unity and peace. GP

Giving Up?

"For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life..." (2 Corinthians 1:8)

During the time of the Apostle Paul's Ephesian ministry (Acts 19:1-20:1) he suffered greatly. Personal dangers, as well as possible imprisonments. Time here will not allow me to share specifically what hardships he faced, but we find him expressing in our text, that he had felt so burdened, and so full of despair, that he felt like giving up.

Have you been there? I think many of us have. I don't have any statistics, but I have read, that around the holidays, and especially after the holidays, the suicide rate goes up. (If I am wrong, I stand corrected)

When the blows of our trials hit us over and over, like an aggressive boxer, we come to a point, where we ask the questions: "What's the use of living any longer?" "How can I take it any more!" "What do we do?"

Read 2 Corinthians 1:9-11, and you will find the best and only answer to those questions.

The answer is to trust in God who is our deliverer. Just as He delivered us from our sins, through His Son, Jesus Christ, He will deliver us from our deep, and desperate trouble.

It is on the Lord, that we set our hope on. And hope will never disappoint, because it is our God who is faithful. And He is faithful all the time! GP

Love's Sacrifice

"For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings." (Hosea 6:6)

Webster's New World Dictionary defines the word "Sacrifice" as: (1) "an offering, as of a life, or object, to a deity (2) "a giving up one thing for another." (3) "to sell at less than the supposed value."

Here is a vital question that all of us as Christians should answer honestly: What does God desire of us? To say it more strictly: What does God expect of us? The answer that I would give, is that God wants us to love Him deeply, and totally.

"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might." (Deuteronomy 6:5)

The burnt offerings were given as an act of worship to God. The complete destruction of the animal, was a symbol of the giving of one self to honor God, and to make atonement for sin.

The prophet Hosea speaks on behalf of God, and expresses His dissatisfaction with Israel's burnt offerings, as sacrifices given to the Lord. They lacked meaning, because while they performed these acts of sacrifice, the hearts of the people had turned away from God. True love, directed towards God, is in the giving up of our lives, to live, and to serve Him completely.

It is saying "NO" to the world, and saying "YES" to the Lord.

Whatever actions that involves, it is what God desires, and yes, what He expects of us! GP

Am I The Only One?

"Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
(1 Peter 5:9-10)

There are those times when we go through trials, that we feel like we are the only one who is suffering. I have heard this said, all of my life.
"If you take time to look around, you will find someone who is in worse shape than yourself."

I know that Christians in different parts of the world are being persecuted, and are giving up their lives for the sake of Jesus Christ. The question comes: When we go through a time of trial, does it help to know that others are suffering as well? Is this any consolation? I believe it should.

In our text, Peter tells his readers (and us) that we, along with our brothers & sisters in Christ, all over the world, are battling Satan, and suffering for the cause of Christ. As Christians, we are apart of a world-wide partnership, in the cause of the Gospel.

Together, we suffer, but together we give testimony of the hope we have in Christ, for all eternity. And that's should give us a great deal of comfort, and a strong sense of purpose. And that is what keeps us going, in the midst of trial. GP

The First Things

" Till we come to the unity of faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ." (Ephesians 4:13)

Now that Donald Trump has been elected president, I hear the news media posting this question: "What should he do first? "What should he be focused on, his first 100 days in office?"

There are always "first things" that must be considered in the completion of any important endeavor.

The Apostle Paul writing to the Christians at Ephesus, told them of three, "first things" that must happen before the church could have a strong maturity, unity, and stability.

The three-fold progression is this: We as Christians, must come to:
1. A Unity Of Faith. We must come together in our trust in Jesus, as our Savior and Shepherd.
2. A Knowledge of the Son of God. This is not just to know about Jesus, but to get to know HIM. We must all strive to have a personal relationship with Him.
3. A Fullness Of Christ  To be fully rooted, and grounded in the teachings of Jesus. To be fully committed to living, and serving Him. To embrace all the teachings and blessings that come, in our relationship with Him.

All three of these steps are "first things" in the development of our Christian maturity, unity, and stability. The more we trust Jesus, and get to know His will for our lives, the more we will experience the wonderful blessings of having Him in our lives. The more He will enhance, and strengthen the Christian community.

Instead of majoring in minor things, lets make these "first things", priority things! GP

The Teenage Christian Challenge

"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance, for you serve the Lord Christ." (Colossians 3:23-24)

Chris Hudson, who is a trainer & coach, specializing in helping adults connect with teenagers, shares how teenagers are looked at today: "...they are lazy kids who just want to sleep in, play computers games, surf the net, and hang out with their friends."

I remember when I was a teenager, my father was determined to teach me the "work ethic." And work I did. But my father, and my grandfather, also encouraged me to see the importance of having Jesus Christ as my Savior, and that serving Him, was a very important endeavor. I believe that is why I have spend 41 years in pastoral ministry.

I believe that when you challenge teenagers to make a difference in the lives of others, they will do it. Yes, they are in a period of immaturity.
They can easily become like a river, and take the paths of least resistance. Just like we adults do at times.

But if we as parents, grandparents, and Christian leaders, can challenge them with the purpose of the Gospel, and help them to see how urgent, and necessary it is in the lives of the people around them, they will enthusiastically get involved.

Is it wrong to be prodded? No, as long as the prodding is seasoned with love, and a strong sense of purpose! There is no greater purpose, then to share the Gospel with lost people in this world. When our young people catch this purposeful flame in their hearts, watch out, because lives are going to be affected! GP

What Is Your Choice?

"And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)

Today is election day (11/8/2016) Today we as Americans will make a choice that will affect our future in this nation. But as important as this is, there is another choice that will affect our eternal future. And that is the choice to make God's Son, Jesus Christ, Savior and Lord of our lives.

In our text, Joshua challenged the people to make a choice, and live with that choice. Was it going to be, to worship the gods of their forefathers, or the gods of the Amorites, (or) the God of the universe, which was Joshua and his family's choice. "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (v.15c)

What it comes down to, for us today, is a choice between running after the things of the world, and putting God first and foremost in our lives. Will we allow Him to be our Savior, and Shepherd, all the days of our lives?  Will we live and serve Him all the days of our lives?

What future will you have with the world, compared to what God offers us? What peace, and satisfaction will we have with the world? Things may be good for awhile, but will it last? I think not!

Like Joshua, I challenge us to today, to vote for Jesus, and make Him a permanent choice for our lives, today, and forever! GP

America Is In God's Hands

"Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God." (Romans 13:1)

In this last year, enduring the presidential campaign, we have been exposed to information concerning corruption and deceit, from both sides of of the political arena.

And not only that, but we have been appalled (at least I have) of how the candidates have treated each other. Tomorrow is election day(11/8/2016). And I would be so bold to say, that many Americans will be so glad to get this election over with. They have had their fill of the political hostility, that has been tearing our nation apart.

One would question: Why would God allow someone to become president who has this kind of history, and who behaves this way. before God, and the American people?

As Christians, we may not know why God allows certain people to be in powerful positions. But here is where our faith is tested. God has His reasons, and His purposes. And although we may not understand them; as our test says: "...there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God." (v.1)

As God has always taken care of me and my family, I know that He knows what is best for our nation. America Is definitely in God's hands.

Two things we must do, as Christians, and American citizens:
First: We must trust and obey God.
Second, We must respect the offices of those who are in governing authority.

We must do as Psalm 46:10 says: "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" GP

The Path To Unity

One of Aesop's fables is the story of a wise father who noticing disharmony among his sons, called them together to discuss
strife. He told each one of his sons to bring a twig to the meeting. As the young men assembled, the father took each boy's twig and easily snapped it in half. Then he gathered the four twigs, tied them together in a bundle, and asked each son to try to break the bundle. Each one tried, but to no avail. The bundle would not snap. After each son tried valiantly to break the bundle, the father asked his boys what they learned from this exercise? The oldest son spoke up and said "If we are individuals, anyone can break us, but if we stick together, no one can harm us!" The father said, "You are right!""You must always stand together and be strong!"

The Apostle Paul in his letter to the church at Philippi showed them the path to unity. In Philippians 2: 1-4 Paul writes: "Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others."

In verse 2 we find a path to a solid unity.
1. BE OF THE SAME MIND (Philippians 2:2a) (The mind of Christ)
2. HAVE THE SAME LOVE (Philippians 2:2b) (A selfless & unconditional love)
3. BE OF ONE ACCORD (Philippians 2:2c) (Although there is diversity, there must be harmony) Christ is made the sure foundation, Christ the head and cornerstone. Chosen of the Lord and precious, Binding all the church in one. GP

Is Sunday School Dying?

Tim Stafford wrote in Christianity Today magazine: “The bedrock institution of Sunday school is in trouble. Attendance nationally is flat or declining. Practically everyone involved, from curriculum publishers to ordinary Sunday-morning teachers, expresses frustration with its present and uncertainty about its future.”

I know in my home church, they do not have Sunday School any longer.
The adults go out for breakfast instead.

Sunday School, (or) "Sabbath School" was established in Britain in 1780, to provide elementary education on Sunday, for children who were employed in factories, stores, and farms, the rest of the week. It was an outreach to poor children, to provide for their physical, spiritual, and educational needs. By 1811 there were more then 400,000 children in these Sunday schools in England. Just 20 years later (1831) England had more than a million children enrolled in Sunday school.

You can read more on the history of Sunday School when you get time.
But the question remains" Is Sunday School a program that is dying? I have always felt that Sunday School (even though it has changed from it's original purpose) has been, and can be today, an opportunity to help in the development of Biblical education, and Christian maturity. The question we need to answer is: How is our Sunday School program accomplishing this?

From the little ones, to the elderly ones. The purpose is the same. Through the Sunday School program, we can help people to come to know Jesus Christ, and what He can do for their lives, today, and forever. Sunday School will not die, unless we let it! GP

I Want A New Daddy

Max Lucado tells about the time he and his wife took their oldest daughter Jenna, who was seven, to get her first bicycle. When they got to the store, three year old Andrea decided that she wanted a bicycle too. He says "I tried to reason with her, and told her that she couldn't reach the pedals, and wouldn't be able to ride it, and needed to wait a few years, to be able to enjoy it. Her response was loud enough for the whole store to hear: "If I can't have a new bike, then I want a new daddy!"

David writes in Psalm 37:7 "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes."

Too often we become impatient in the things we want to possess or accomplish. And if God doesn't provide us with what we want or need, in our way, and in our time, we step ahead of Him, and try to pursue those things on our own. Where does that lead us? It leads us down a path of disappointment, and dissatisfaction.

We need to stop buying into the lie that our first parents bought into:
"For God knows that in the day you eat from it (the tree of knowledge of good and evil) your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." (Genesis 3:5)

We don't know what is good for us, as much as God does. We don't need to step ahead of our heavenly Father. He always cares always about our welfare.

It's time we place our lives completely in His hands, and trust Him in all things! GP

The Sufficient Grace Of God

"My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness."
(2 Corinthians 12:9a)

There are many people who find "weakness" a very revolting condition. We would rather see ourselves as strong, virle, vigorous, etc.

But there are times, when no matter how hard we try, we cannot be these things. Does that mean that we are failures in life? The Apostle Paul didn't think so. He was a strong Christian man. But he knew where his strength came from. We are not sure what the "thorn in the flesh" (2 Cor.12:1) was, that afflicted him.

In the beginning, he had problems accepting it. He asked the Lord to remove it three times. But after the third time, he accepted the Lord's answer to Him. "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness."
(2 Cor.12:9a)

How wonderful to know, that in our condition of weakness, the Lord can work in us, and through us, to help us to make an impact on this world for Him.

The whole purpose of our Christian experience is to glorify the Creator of the universe, to magnify our Heavenly Father. We can do that the best, when we totally depend upon Him, for the wisdom, and strength we need.

We depend on so many things, to survive in this life. The power we need is just an outlet away. Well the power we need, to live a peaceful, and purposeful life, is a good read, every day, from the Bible, and a prayer of total submission to the Lord. Let's plug into the power! GP

Come Clean

"When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away Through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”; And You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah. (Psalm 32:3-5)

This Psalm grew out of David's experiences with the Lord, after he had committed adultery, and had tried to hide his sins (2 Samuel 11-12)

How guilt takes it's toll, not only on our spirit, but on our physical bodies.
We can identify with David, and the misery he shares in our text. It may have been a wonderful experience, during the time of the sinful activity. But then when he realized that he had totally disobeyed God, and had hurt other people, how did that make him feel? He thought that he could get away with it, but his sins found him out.

The best remedy is to confess our sins to God. To come clean, and let Him know, sincerely, that we are sorry for our sinful thoughts, desires, and activity.

If we are sincere, the Lord promised that as He forgave David, He will forgive us as well. Don't dwell in misery, come clean, and allow the Lord Jesus Christ, to restore you. You will be happy when you do! GP

The Acceptance Admonition

"Wherefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God."
(Romans 15:7)

The early church here in Rome was making adjustments to their new found faith and practise. Both Jew and Gentile Christians, were struggling in the changes of their new position in Christ, and they were having a hard time accepting one another in the Christian fellowship.

Not so different from our churches today. In our own Christian walk, it is a struggle to give up what we once loved, and lived for, to totally live and serve our Lord Jesus Christ. Yes, we profess to be Christians, but yet we struggle with the desires for the worldly things.

And the reason that there is a decline in church attendance, and the closing of so many churches, is the failure to accept each other in the partnership of the Gospel, and the selfish ambitions, we try to impose upon the fellowship.
When those, individually, or as a group, do not get their way, they leave, and pursue another place, where they can impose their selfish interests and ambitions.

We are to accept each other, as Christ accepted us. We are all sinners, standing in the grace of God; and we are all to be partners in reaching the lost for Christ. Why is that so hard to understand? and most of all, to maintain?

When the petty things overshadow the priority matters, that's when our fellowship in Christ, is in trouble! GP

An Ambassador's Aim

"Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us, we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God." (2 Corinthians 5:20)
My online dictionary defines an "ambassador" as being: "an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country."a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity."

As a Christian, where ever I go, whatever I say, whatever I do, I represent Christ. I am to do as Jesus said in Matthew 5: 16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." That is a tall order.

I am not a perfect witness all the time. And there are times I would be ashamed, because I don't always do what the Lord expects of me. Have you been there?

But it is something that we should never give up on. The Lord certainly doesn't want us to give up, and say to Him, as well as to ourselves: "I am just not worthy to be a sold witness for you!" I believe that the Bible tells us to let our light shine, by loving others, and ministering to their needs.

We may not be perfect, but the love of Christ is. Even though we are broken vessels, what we have inside is so precious, and necessary, for people to have. And that is a relationship with Jesus Christ.

We can say to those who are lost in this world. "Come and meet a person who is helping me to overcome my sins and weaknesses." What He is doing in and through me, He can do the same for you.

Yes, in spite of our weaknesses, we can still be an ambassador for Christ, and encourage people to be reconciled to God, through Christ! GP

The Help Of Humility

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time." (1 Peter 5:6)

Why is there erasers on the end of our pencils? Just in case we make a mistake, we have something to help us correct it. Even though many people would acknowledge the fact that they make mistakes, there are people who act like they have never made mistakes, and carry with them, an arrogant attitude.

We are not all right, and we are not all wrong. We are human beings, exhibiting both the positive and the negative. No one is better, or more important than, anyone else.

The Bible is clear, as the Apostle Paul said in Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." The whole human race has sinned and fallen short of God's glory. So how can we act so arrogant, and self-centered, when we fall short before a righteous God?

We care a great deal about what the world thinks, instead of what God thinks. If we would do what our text tells us, we would be able to have a proper view of ourselves. If we would humble ourselves, and concentrate on being a blessing to others, God in His time, would show us our place, and our purpose, in this life.

If we allow the Lord Jesus Christ to make us right before His Father, we would be able to place ourselves in the Heavenly Father's care, now, and for eternity.

Having humility, does not take away the fact that we are special, and have an important contribution in this world. But it does open the door for us to have a right relationship with God, and with others.

It opens the door for us to accomplish more, than our selfish arrogant self, could ever accomplish. GP

Our Spiritual Mind Set

"Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God." (Colossians 3:2-3)

There are things of this life, and of this world, that I have a craving for. It is hard to have the self-control to give them up. And yet they are things that in time will corrupt my body, mind, and soul.
Is this a challenge for you as well?

Why is it hard for Christians to set their minds on the things of God, and maintain a spiritual mind set that can not be shaken?

The apostle Paul tells of the challenge that he dealt with, in his life:
"For the good that I wish, I do not do; but I practice the very evil, that I do not wish." (Romans 7:19)

When the desires of the flesh kick in, they take us well away from the will of God, for our lives. And after we have yielded to temptation, and given ourselves to sinful thoughts and actions, we feel guilty about it.

In spite of knowing the right that we should do, we give in to the desires that are so strong, and the temporary thrill that is such a delight at the time. But then the thought of disappointing God, and placing ourselves at odds with Him, is very disheartening.

The question is: What is the key to setting our minds on the things of God? What is it that will keep us on a constant steadfast place with God, instead of with the world?

The key is our constant abiding in the true Vine (Jesus Christ) John 15.
No one else can keep us from slipping into sin. Not only does He save us, but He sustains us.  As Christians, the old "life is dead, and is hidden with Christ in God."  With our cooperation with our Lord Jesus Christ, He will help the old life, to stay dead! GP

Walking Through

"Yea, Though I walk through..."(Psalm 23:4a)
There are some mountain roads that are high up in elevation, and have no protection to keep you from going over the side. I have not had the pleasure of traveling those roads, and I hope I never do.
I am afraid of heights, and this would be a very difficult experience for me.

The Psalmist David, had rough roads in his life.
He was as I would call him, a warrior King, and one who at one time, was a fugitive from King Saul. Rough roads indeed.

The apostle Paul, described our Christian journey as "a walk." In Ephesians 4:1: "I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the callings with which you have been called." There were times in Paul's life that he had to walk the walk of a "prisoner of the Lord." He was arrested and placed in prison for preaching the Gospel. He knew that there would be opposition to his evangelistic endeavor.

I don't believe that Paul was surprised at his imprisonment, but he didn't try to run away and hide, he faced his situation head on. No matter what comes in our Christian walk, we are encouraged by the example of Paul, to keep walking through the storms of life.

The Lord Jesus Christ told His disciples, that He would be with them even unto the end of the age. Every step that we take, the Lord Jesus takes one beside ours. He is with us everyday, and every moment of our lives.

Some of the situations we have faced, have felt like driving on those mountain roads. But the co-pilot we have next to us, knows, what is around every turn, and will get us safely to where He wants us to be.

With that promise, let's keep walking through....GP

What To Do With Our Faith?

There was a man who got lost in the desert. After wandering around for a long time, his throat became very dry, and about that time, he saw a little shack in the distance. He made his way over to the shack, and found a water pump with a small jug of water and a note. The note read: "Pour all the water into the top of the pump to prime it. If you do this, you will get all the water you need." Now the man had a choice to make. If he trusted the note, and poured the water in and it worked he would have all the water he needed. If it didn't work, he would still be thirsty and he might die. Or he could choose to drink the water in the jug and get immediate satisfaction, but it might not be enough and he still might die. After thinking about it, the man decided to risk it. He poured the entire jug into the pump and began to work the handle. At first nothing happened, and he got a little scared. But he kept going, and water started coming out. So much water came out, that he drank all he wanted, took a shower, and filled all the containers he could find. Because he was willing to give up momentary satisfaction, he got all the water he needed. Now the note also said: "After you have finished, please refill the jug for the next traveler." The man refilled the jug, and added to the note: "Please prime the pump, believe me it works!"

Like that little jug of water, our faith is the most valuable possession we have.
What are we to do with our faith? Three things:
1. Realize The Value Of Faith (1 Peter 1:6-7)
2. Recognize The Vision Of Faith (Hebrews 12:1-2)
3. Rejoice In The Victory Of Faith (1 John 5:4-5)

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word,
Just to rest upon His promise
Just to know "Thus saith the Lord." ___Stead

A Work In Progress

"Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 3:12-14)

Where do you place yourself in regards to your maturity, and personal growth?

There are some, who feel that they have arrived, and that there is not much more they have to learn, or to accomplish, in achieving maturity and personal growth. And there are those who are working on it on a daily basis, and feel that they are gaining every day. And then there are those, who because of life's mistakes, failures, or disappointments, have given up on gaining any amount of maturity, or personal growth.

When we talk about personal growth, the question that we need to look at is: Are we wiser, and stronger, than we were five, or ten years ago?

In our text, the Apostle Paul, expressed his desire of reaching forward to obtain all that the Lord Jesus Christ had for him to be, and to do. His maturity was not based on the ways of the world, but on the knowledge of the person: Jesus Christ. He wanted to grow up in Christ in every way. Forgetting the past things, and pressing on to a future maturity and to the blessings that are found in Jesus Christ.

I would be bold to say, that all of us, are a work in progress. And if we have not started our journey with the Lord Jesus Christ, we need to begin today.
It is far greater, to be found mature in Christ, than in the world.

But it is a choice, and one that needs to be made before our opportunities run out? GP

What Kind Of People Ought We To Be?

Do you know when the Lord Jesus is coming back? Many will ask this question: "Do you really believe He is coming back?" Peter's answer in his second letter, in essence was an emphatic "Yes!"

"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,.."(2 Peter 3:10-11)

That is a good question. In light of all that will happen when Jesus returns, what kind of people will He find us to be? Will He find us to be holy (set apart to be God's people, committed to worshiping and following Him, instead of the world? And along with holiness, godliness, (which is bearing the virtues of God's character in our lives).

As He is a righteous God, we are to be a righteous people. Will He find us to be so? I pray that He will. But time is of the essence, because we don't know when Jesus will return. It could be at any time. And this life is our time to prepare for His coming.

Of all the bad things that could happen to someone, the worst is to leave this world without establishing a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. And if we are here when He returns, for Him to find us involved so much with the world, would be severely unfortunate for us.

Peter's question is a vital question. One that must be responded to today, before it is too late. (GP)

A Friendly Community

"And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved."
(Acts 2:44-47)

Are all communities friendly? From a social perspective, communities are like people; they are not all the same. They (like people) have different personalities. Some are very friendly, welcoming, inclusive, showing humility (what I call "down home people") While others are arrogant, rude, and stand-offish.

When you live in a community for awhile, and you have not connected socially, with the people, something is wrong. And that "something" is a mind set, that didn't happen over night, but has been developed over many years.

It would have been great to be in the early Christian community. If you were a stranger, and came into their fellowship, you would not have been a stranger very long. And if they knew that you had any needs, they would have made sure that those needs, were taken care of. You would have felt so welcome, and made to feel apart of their fellowship,

You definitely would have joined them in praising God, and having favor with all the people. It is no wonder that the Lord added to their number day by day, those who were being saved. They showed, and shared the "good news" of Jesus Christ.

It is not easy to be in an unfriendly community. But even if we are, we should "let our light shine" with the joy we have in the Lord. Who knows, maybe, with the Lord's help, you may be the one to break that mind set, and establish a new attitude in your community. GP

God Gives Hope

"God will help you overflow with hope in Him through the Holy Spirit's power within you." (Romans 15:13 TLB)

I want to share a devotion from Max Lucado's devotional book "Grace For The Moment" Volume II entitled: "God Gives Hope"

"Heaven's hope does for your world what the sunlight did for my grandmother's cellar. I ow my love of peach preserves to her. She canned her own and stored them in an underground cellar near her West Texas house. It was a deep hole with wooden steps, plywood walls, and a musty smell. As a youngster I used to climb in, close the door, and see how long I could last in the darkness...I would sit silently, listening to my breath and heartbeats, until I couldn't take it anymore and then would race yo the stairs and throw open the door. Light would avalanche into the cellar. What a change! Moments before I couldn't see anything--all of a sudden I could see everything. Just as light poured into the cellar, God's hope pours into your world. Upon the sick, He shines the ray of healing. To the bereaved, He gives the promise of reunion.
To the confused, He offers the light of Scripture."

GP Today if you feel like you are in a cellar of distress and despair, realize today, that in the Lord Jesus Christ, you have hope. In no other one can we find, and keep the hope that He provides...today, and forever! GP

In A Spirit Of Gentleness

"Brethren, even if a man is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, let you too be tempted."
(Galatians 6:1)

It is important that we as Christians look for those opportunities to restore those who have been caught by sin. I don't believe that the apostle Paul is just talking about restoring someone who is in the church, but bringing someone who we know, who is not a Christian, to a point of correction, and hopefully, a point of repentance, and to salvation.
Whether it is someone of the world, or someone who is of the body of Christ, there is the need for rescue, and restoration from sin. And Paul tells us to do it in a spirit of gentleness, not in a spirit of severe criticism, and judgment.

Again we must look at the example of Jesus, and see the attitude and approach He took. In John 8:1-11, the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and put her right in front of Him. of course they did this to trap Him.

They said, she was caught in the very act, and the law of Moses says, that the punishment should be to stone her to death, what do you say? (v.5) In a spirit of gentleness, but directness, Jesus writes something on the ground, and then makes this statement: "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." (v.7) What Jesus wrote that made them one by one leave, and not condemn this woman, we are not sure.

And to the woman in a spirit of gentleness, He asks her: "Where are those who condemn you?" She says" "no one, Lord," (v.11) and in a gentle voice, Jesus said: "Neither do I condemn you, go your way, and from now on, sin no more."  (v.11)

This is the attitude and the action we are to show, in reaching out to people who are in the grip of sin and destruction. I am glad that we are not in the position of judging others, but we are given opportunities to make a difference in people's lives, for the sake of Christ. What a privilege it is, to do that! GP

The Right Debate

"But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame." (1 Peter 3:15-16)

It seems that debating is a popular activity these days. Especially with the presidential election coming up. We just had one of three presidential debates, and debating on who is the better candidate, is the priority focus of news programs, and talk shows.

In our text Peter shares with his readers, the importance of giving a defense for the Lord, but doing it in a way that brings honor and glory, to the Lord.
As the Lord is holy (set-apart), we are to be holy, in our speech, and conduct.

We are to always be prepared to give a reason, for the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. What a wonderful privilege, to be able to share about the person, who has, and is, making such a huge difference in our lives.

But don't be surprised, if you encounter strong opposition to what you believe, and hold dear in your heart, about the Lord. There may come a strong debate about your Christian convictions, even slander. If this happens, Peter tells us to respond in gentleness and respect, having our good behavior be a testimony of how the Lord is living in us, and helping us to put forth good character.

It is both in what we say, and how we act, while we are saying it, that will either glorify the Lord, or put the Lord to shame. And yes, people are watching us, as they are watching the debates that are going on today.

In closing: It's not about winning the argument, but rather answering the question: Did people hear about the Lord Jesus Christ, and how He can make a big difference in people's lives? GP

One Thing You Can Take To The Bank

Outline By Alan Carr www.sermonoutlines.org 2 Peter 3:1-9

Every time I visit my hometown in Wisconsin,
I see change. Buildings that were once there, are torn down.Where farms used to be, there are housing developments. Its the same with people.

When I visit with relatives, I haven't seen in awhile, I see that the aging process has been at work. They see it in me as well.
"We are changing all the time. We change our clothes, we change our minds, we change directions, we change jobs, we change cars, and we change moods in an instant."

(1) But the one thing that doesn't change, is the promises of God. Jesus made it crystal clear in Revelation 22:20, that He is returning to this world.
"He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so Come Lord Jesus!"

The Prophets prophesied of Jesus' coming to this earth, years before He came. He fulfilled all the prophecies, right down to the nail. He will do it again.
And that we cant take to the bank.

Why Can we be Assured Of This Promise? (Three Reasons)
1. THE ASSURANCE OF THE SCRIPTURES (2 Peter 3:1-2)
2. THE IGNORANCE OF THE SCOFFERS (2 Peter 3:3-7)
3. THE PATIENCE OF THE SAVIOR (2 Peter 3:8-9) (1)

The Gift Of Drawing Near

"Let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water." (Hebrews 10:22)

The most precious possession that one can have, is the gift of fellowship with God. It is a gift, because it is apart of His grace.

"Within the Old Testament tabernacle, was a thick veil, that served as a separator, a dividing barrier, between God and the people. Beyond this, the tabernacle was sanctified, and set apart as a holy place. This spared the people, from an outbreak from God, that would have destroyed them (Exodus 33:5) Also, the Tabernacle was a place of sacrifice, so that the sins of the Israelites could be atoned for. While the solution was not permanent, it did facilitate communion between God, and His people. (Bible.org)

When Jesus was crucified, that thick veil was rent, from top to bottom, telling, that now, all people, Jews & Gentiles, who are in Christ, can come boldly, to the throne of Grace. We can have access to God, now and forever.

And then the question comes: Why don't we want to take advantage of this precious opportunity? Why are we so focused on other things? worldly things, that we do not draw near to God?
Yes, in times of trial, we feel the need to, but why not all the time?

We are to come before God with a sincere heart, in full assurance of faith.
As a people who have been made clean from our evil consciences, and bodies that (at baptism) have been cleansed. Every part of us, is set right, to have fellowship with a holy, righteous, loving, and powerful God.

As the song says: "People Need The Lord!" We need to draw near to Him, and to keep ourselves near to Him. To abide with Him, all of our lives. It is a gift that has more benefits that we can imagine.

Thank you Lord Jesus, for making this happen for us! GP

EXAMINING CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP

As Christians we are called unto the fellowship of Jesus Christ.
We are to find our place in the body of Christ. As tools in the Master's tool box, we all have our purpose as instruments of ministry to the world, and to the church.

It should be as smooth as can be, to take our place, and do our part. But when there is division in the fellowship, when there is self-contentedness, and an inward focus, it makes it hard to find a space,
and accomplish Kingdom work, as a Kingdom worker.

Our English word "fellowship" is the translation of the Greek word "Koinonia"
This Greek word is derived from the root, "Koinos" which has a prefix in Ancient Greek. If you were to add this prefix to words meaning "living" "owning a purse" a dispute, and mother, you would get words meaning; living in a community together, owning a purse in common, a public dispute, and having a mother in common. So we see that the root of the word"fellowship" means "to hold something in common." It is more than just a word that describes our social gatherings. As Christians, we hold someone in common. That someone is Jesus Christ.

Theme: Let's look at 1 Corinthians 1:9-10, and examine our Christian fellowship more closely.
THE FOUNDATION OF OUR FELLOWSHIP.
(1 Corinthians 1:9) What is the origin of our Christian fellowship? It begins with God faithfully calling us into fellowship with His Son (Read 1 John 1:7)
The vertical relationship (with God) must be right before the horizontal relationships (with others) will be right.
THE FRAMEWORK OF OUR FELLOWSHIP
(1 Corinthians 1:10) The Apostle Paul addresses the problem of division in the church at Corinth. In so doing, he establishes here the proper framework for solid Christian fellowship. We can apply what he presents here. He pleads with them in the name of the Lord Jesus to:
1. Speak the same thing. (Agree in the Lord)
2. Let there be no divisions among you.
3. Be joined together in the same mind. (Phil.2:1-5)
4. Have the same judgment. (Thought & Purpose)
Conclusion: TEAM=Together, Each, Accomplishes, More. GP

Boasting In Us, Or In Christ

"But may it never be that I should boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." (Galatians 6:14)

How do you feel about your past?

There are some that just can't get past their past experiences, They are trapped by guilt, and resentment. And there are some who glory in their past.

Many have written books on their past struggles with alcoholism, and drug addiction, child abuse, and sexual abuse. I do admire the effort, and success of those who overcame these experiences. But I wonder, especially with our young people.
If after reading, and hearing these stories, if they don't think, "If I had a story of struggle with something to tell about, maybe people would listen to me, and value me?

The Apostle Paul did mention his past, in his letter to the church at Philippi.
He said that at one time, he felt that he had grounds for having confidence in the flesh. But he said that he put it all behind him, and counted all of his past experiences, and accomplishments, as rubbish, that he might pursue his greatest goal, and that is to know Jesus Christ, as his Savior, and Lord of his life. (Philippians 3)

In our text, Paul says, I am never going to boast about anything (my past efforts, accomplishments). The only thing I am going to boast about, is in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was at the cross that Jesus put to death our sins. In accepting Him as Savior, we are putting to death, and burying (at baptism) our sinful and miserable past, to be experienced no more.

The credit should go to Jesus Christ. Our story of redemption, and deliverance should be centered in Jesus Christ, not in us. Yes, we have "a story to tell to the nations." It is not a story of self-help, but a story of divine help. If we are dead to the world, our story should be, of how we are alive in Christ, and how we are heaven bound! GP

Rest In Our Distress

"For the enemy has persecuted my soul; He has crushed my life to the ground; He has made me dwell in dark places, like those who have long been dead. Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; My heart is appalled within me."(Psalm 143:3-4)

As I write this post, I know that there are many who feel like David, who was very overwhelmed in his spirit. Dealing with those who were oppressing him. It became more than he could handle by himself. And He pleas with the Lord to answer his prayer quickly, because his spirit is failing.

I don't know what you are dealing with today. There are so many challenges in this life, that we face on a daily basis. But I like the last line of words in (v.9) David says: "I take refuge in Thee."
David knew that He had someone to hold on to, until the storm passed, and he could see the clouds of his trial, break up, and go away. The best person to hold on to, is the Lord.

Have you accepted the Lord as Savior of your sins? Have you determined that as you journey through this life, that you want the Good Shepherd to care for your every need? The Lord promises to be both to you. Having peace with God, we can enjoy the peace He gives, in those times when our spirit is overwhelmed within us. It's great to know that, as Christians, we have someone who will provide rest, in our distress (Matthew 11:28-30) GP

Power In The Blood

"Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God." (Romans 5:9)

"What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow.
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus." (Author-Robert Lowry)

Why is the blood of Jesus so important? I hope you will take time to look up these Scriptures, to see what the blood of Jesus accomplishes:
*"Provides Forgiveness of our sins: (Hebrews 9:22)
Gives you life: (John 6:53)
Brings you close to God: (Ephesians 2:15)
Cleanses your conscience: (Hebrews 9:14)
Gives you boldness to approach God: (Hebrews 10:19)/
Sanctifies you: (Hebrews 13:12)
Cleanses you: (1 John 1:7)
Heals you: (1 Peter 2:24)
Enables you to overcome the devil and his works: (Revelation 12:11)
(*walkingbyfaith.tv/journal/single-article/81)

"Your natural blood supplies life-giving oxygen and nutrients to every cell in your body. If the flow of blood were to get cut off from an area of your body, that part would begin to die. Spiritually speaking, any part of your life that is cut off from the blood of Jesus is dead or dying." (*walkingbyfaith.tv/journal/single-article/81)

Have you been cleansed by the blood of the Lamb? You can do it today, and receive the new life, that the Savior wants so much, for you to have! GP
