Why Am I Here?

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10)

When I look around our kitchen I see that the microwave, the coffeemaker, the stove, and the toaster, all have a purpose.
When I walk in the living room, I see that the TV, my easy chair, has a purpose. Everything that God creates, has a purpose. So why is it so hard for people to answer the questions: Why am I here on planet earth? What is my purpose for living?

Yes, we go through the routine of eating meals, going to work, participating in some social and recreational activities, sleeping, and getting up the next morning, just to start that routine all over again.
Of course there are essential activities that require a routine for survival, but what about accomplishing some significant things with our lives? I believe that all of us did not come into this world by accident. God has a purpose for each one of us.

In our text the Apostle Paul tells us that we are God's workmanship.
We are His creation, and His re-creation, through His Son Jesus Christ. God made us, and because of our sin debt, He redeemed us. His purpose for us, is to be saved, and to be used to minister to the needs of those around us.

Those good works that He prepared for us beforehand, we are to walk in them everyday. And with 2021 being a year of restoration, we will have much opportunity to glorify God, when we involve ourselves in ministry to those who are hurting, and beaten down.

It is a great adventure to live for, and serve our Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ. We should never have to ask the question: Why am I here, and what should I do with my life? We only have to look to God, and His Word, and we will find His answer! GP

The Workmanship Of God

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)

What does God want to do with our lives?

First and foremost, He wants us to be saved, and to have all the eternal blessings He has to offer. Secondly, He wants to use us to build His kingdom. He wants us to be involved in good works, that He prepared beforehand for us to do.

What are those good works? They are acts of ministry to others. Matthew 25:34-40 tells us what kinds of acts of ministry we can be involved in. And it doesn't stop there. Wherever there is a need, we are to be there on behalf of Christ, to meet that need. "...Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did unto Me." (v.40b)

For those of us, who are busy pursuing our own selfish pursuits, preoccupied with the frills and thrills of the world; it's time to wake up to the real purpose for our lives. We spend all out time, digging for the treasures of the world, when God has much more blessings, and much more of a purpose for our lives.

We were not made for this world, but we were made to head towards our heavenly home, and to take as many with us as we can. God has big plans for our lives. Let's not just place ourselves in a small frame of mind. But let's be open to all that God wants to do, in us, and through us.

He will help us to make a difference, For Him, for others, and indeed, for ourselves. GP

The Pursuit Of Our Purpose

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.." (Matthew 28:19)

You have a church business meeting.
You may talk about several things that hopefully are directed to accomplishing a purpose.

The purpose of the meeting should always be placed on the foundation of the purpose of the church. It is important that spiritual leaders in the church, remind the members, not just in committee meetings, but in one on one interactions, what the purpose of the church is. From the Bible, What does the Lord Jesus Christ want us to accomplish?

Our text is apart of the Great Commission. the purpose of the church is to "make disciples of all nations" To evangelize the world for Christ.
And that means, right where we are as well.

Too often the main purpose of the church is side-tracked by minor petty concerns. And churches have split, and closed, over minor, petty concerns.

For example: Does the planning of music for worship have something to do with the "making of disciples?" Yes! We need to keep in mind that during the worship service there may be those who have not given their lives to Jesus Christ. What music will help in leading them to a decision?

Everything thing that is planned, should point to the accomplishing of our Lord's purpose for us as a church. It is a serious matter, and will take a disciplined effort. But in so doing, we will accomplish the main purpose Christ has for us, and bring us closer together as a body of believers. GP
