"But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time." (Luke 1:20)
In the movie "The Polar Express" a young boy has difficulty "believing" in the magic and mystery of Santa Claus and Christmas. He is hesitant at first to get on a train called "The Polar Express" that takes him to the North Pole, where he has a wonderful Christmas experience he will never forget.
(Be sure to see the movie) The key to his wonderful experience is to simply "believe!" Which in the end he does.
When Zacharias was serving as priest in the temple, an angel appeared to him, and told him that Elizabeth (his wife) would have a child, and his name would be John. But Zacharias responded to the angel with disbelief. "And Zacharias said to the angel, "How shall I know this? For I am an old man and my wife is well advanced in years." (v.18)
Because Zacharias did not believe the words of the angel, he would not be able to speak until these events took place concerning the birth of John the Baptist.
The Hebrew writer says that: "Without faith it is impossible to please Him. (God) For he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." (Hebrews 11:6)
To me, faith is taking God at His Word. To believe with all our heart, who He says He is, what He has done, and what He promises to do.
This Christmas, let's not be hesitant to get on the train of faith.
Let's ride that train all the days of our life, with confidence; believing that God will take care of us all the days of our lives, and eventually get us safely to our eternal home! (GP)
