No Signature

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world” (Psalm 19:1-4) 

My son Nathan and I were discussing a question that was asked by a young lady in a church youth group class. Her question: "What evidence is there that God exists?" In other words: "How can you prove the existence of God?" 

I used the analogy of a picture that was painted by a famous artist.
We would not know who painted the picture unless there was the artist's signature somewhere at the bottom of the painting. When God created the world, and man-kind, He did not put His signature on creation. It's as if, God backed away from His work (that He said was good) and let it be for man-kind to enjoy and care for.

Why did God do this? The Hebrew writer gives us the answer:
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists, and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).

Is There A God?

"The fool has said in his heart, there is no God" (Psalm 14:1a)

Do you ever question whether God exists?
Is there a God? There are many doubters and scoffers; are you one of them?

It seems that for us as Christians, the times when we really question the reality of God, is during times of trial. When nothing is going right in our lives. We ask: "Where is God in all of this?" "I thought He was supposed to be taking care of me, and now look at the mountain of problems that surrounds me."

I propose a little activity that may bring assurance, that God is real, and that He is with you, in the fire of trial. Take your Bible, and find some secluded place, where you can be alone with Him and His Word. Begin to read some of the Psalms, and listen to God speak to your heart. And then pour your heart out to Him, through prayer. In doing this, see if you don't feel the presence of God with you.

Yes, the insight will come to handle those problems in your life.
The comfort will come, the peace will come. You will feel the presence of the Lord with you, and you will agree with David, that only a fool will say in his heart, there is no God." (GP)
