In this time of terrorism, economic challenge, and consistent immorality, how do we as Christians, live the life, God wants us to live? How do we stay focused, and faithful to living the truth that is found in God's Word?
To say that we cannot be influenced by our environment is a delusion. There is so much, negative information to see and to hear. There is a great deal of temptation to go along with what the rest of the world is doing. To not fall into what the rest of the world is preoccupied with these days, is just too demanding. But yet, little by little the world hooks us like fish waiting for that delicious, but destructive worm.
The Apostle John writes: "For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever." (1 John 2:16-17)
Our enemy Satan is hoping that we take advantage of these worldly pursuits, that will corrupt our minds, and ultimately our souls. To stay faithful to our Christian life commitment, we need to always remember, the comparison of what Jesus Christ provides, and what the world provides. To know Jesus personally, and to fellowship with Him daily, is the best experience one can have.
If we really put effort into it, and take it as far as we can, it will definitely cause us to say as the hymn says: "I'd Rather Have Jesus" than anything in the whole world. And that experience will not stop with this life, but will continue for eternity.
To always keep this in mind, will help us to stay true to this life, that the Lord has called us to. GP
