Will God Provide?
Mark 8: 1-21
This question keeps coming back time after time: "Will the Lord Jesus provide for our needs?" "Will He take care of us?"
The multitude had not eaten in three days. Our Lord Jesus did not want them to return hungry, and perhaps collapse on the way home. So with just seven loaves of bread, and a few fish, Jesus fed the multitude.
They ended up with seven baskets left over. What does this say to us today? It says that little is much in the hands of Jesus. He will take care of our needs. He will open doors for us that will lead to the provision, of not only our physical needs, but especially our spiritual needs.
And the greatest need of all, the payment of our sin debt, which He took care of, at the cross.
The Pharisees came out to confront Him concerning His claims, and in so doing, would try to entrap Him. "Give us a sign" they demanded.
As if this miracle of feeding the multitude, was not a sign in itself? Jesus refused to give them a sign, and He warned the disciples concerning the leaven of the Pharisees and of Herod. The leaven of blindness, and selfishness, that enlarged their piety. But it was the disciples' concern that they didn't have enough bread, that motivated Jesus' strong exhortation to them. "When I fed 5000, did we not have bread left over? Here I fed 4000, did we not have bread left over? How is it you do not understand? With one loaf of bread I can multiply it to meet our need." In other words, Jesus was saying: "Trust Me, I will take care of your needs."
The Apostle Paul made this confirmation concerning the Lord's care for his life. "And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."(Philippians 4:19)
We need to Understand that Our God cares, and He is faithful. "Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, you do not hear?" (v.18) GP
