"Not lagging in diligence, fervent in Spirit, serving the Lord." (Romans 12:11)
My son Nathan asked me this question: "Dad, why is it, that those who participate in sports, and those who attend sports events, seem to be so committed and faithful, compared to Christians, who are lax in their participation and attendance?
There is nothing wrong with sports, except, it has become an idol that people worship. Even Christians have placed it as more important than being with God's people to worship Him.
There are a lot of things that Satan puts in our path that become a distraction from us placing our total focus on living and serving the Lord 100%. Sports is not a new distraction, but it is one that is really dominant in our society today. Millions of dollars are invested, from the local scene, all the way up to the professional level. The only way to overcome a false god such as sports, is to make a determined choice and stick to it. Joshua did that when he told the people: "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15c)
There is no doubt that it takes discipline to be a 100% solid committed Christian. That when it comes to the pleasures of life, and the gods of this world, we will without hesitancy, say no to them, and yes to the Lord! That is what it will take to put in place what is most important, and that is the things of the Lord! What a difference it would make, if instead of the stadiums being full, our churches buildings would be filled to the maximum, each and every Sunday. How exciting that would be! GP
