Where We Find Ourselves, He Finds Us!

Wherever We Find Ourselves, He Finds Us!

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand." (John 10:27-28)

"Fanny Crosby loved sharing the Gospel with anyone who would listen. In 1869 she penned the words to “Rescue the Perishing.” When asked about the song, she explained, “It was written following a personal experience at the New York City Bowery Mission.” She went on to explain that she would go one night a week to talk to “her boys.” One night while speaking to them, she kept having the thought that there was a boy present who had wandered away from his mother and must be rescued that night, or he would be eternally lost. She made a plea to each boy that was there that night. At the end of the service, one of the young men came forward and said, “Did you mean me, Miss Crosby? I promised my mother to meet her in Heaven, but as I am now living that will be impossible.” She prayed with him and led him to Christ. As they finished, he said, “Now I am ready to meet my mother in Heaven, for I have found God.” (Ministry 127 "The Story Behind "Rescue The Perishing")

Wherever we find ourselves: Whether we are lost in sin and spiritual depravity, or under a constant cloud of deep dark depression and despair, or wrestling with aggressive anxiety and worry, whatever the negative circumstances and conditions we find ourselves, Jesus our Good Shepherd knows us, and knows where we are. He knows our state of affairs, and He knows how to help us. Some may ask: How is that possible? And how can I trust someone like this who I can not see? The answer is Faith! The sheep trust in a voice they know. They will follow the one they have come to know as their caretaker.

With us as Christians, it is establishing and maintaining a relationship with this one who promises salvation, and daily sustenance. After placing our trust in His Word for our lives, and find it to he faithful and true, when trouble comes, we know that no other voice that speaks to us, is better, or more faithful and secure, than that of our Savior, and Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is to say with the psalmist "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him." (Psalm 34:8)

In this life, we find ourselves in various places of challenge. But what comfort and encouragement in those places of challenge, to seek and to find  our Good Shepherd already there, waiting for us to draw near to Him, and to find the peace He gives. How wonderful that gift is! GP
