Hearing The Voice Of God
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."
(John 10:27)
I heard our pastor say Sunday, "If you hear the voice of God, your life will never be the same!" There have been several in the Bible who heard the voice of God, and yes, it did change their lives. Let's look at four of them:
Abraham:"The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you." .....So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran."
(Genesis 12:1, 4)
Moses:
"When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” (Exodus 3:4)
Isaiah:
"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)
John:
"I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lamp-stands, and among the lamp stands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest."
(Revelation 1:12-13)
Each one of these Bible people heard the voice of God. And in their encounters with the voice of God, they made big changes in their lives. The question comes to us, "Are we listening for God's voice, when we hear, or read the Word of God?. Too many just let it go in one ear, and out the other. We are strongly encouraged to put God's Word into practice in our lives. But do we?
From the mess we have made in our society today, it is evident that we haven't.
The Hebrew writer strongly encourages us, in this: "So, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion,
during the time of testing in the wilderness,
where your ancestors tested and tried me,
though for forty years they saw what I did." (Hebrews 3:7-9)
If we want God's blessing in our lives, in our society, we need to heed the voice God, as we allow His Word to influence our lives.
