If You Don't Mind, It Doesn't Matter
"If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." (Colossians 3:1-3)
"What does the phrase mind over matter mean? (It is) used to describe a situation in which someone is able to control a physical condition, problem, etc., by using the mind. His ability to keep going even when he is tired is a simple question of mind over matter." (merriam-webster.com)
In this writing today, I may not have the right interpretation concerning this phrase "Mind over matter." If we follow the meaning of the words of the apostle Paul to the Christians at Colossae, we as Christians are not to mind the things of this world. Instead, we are to mind the things that are above. We are to seek those things of Jesus Christ, who is our Savior, and Lord of our Lives.
I truly believe that this where our true security lies. But how often do we look at it this way? We know that those of the world, look to the world, for the security they need, as they go through life. And how disappointing is that? Very disappointing!
But as Christians, how can we think that the world will do anything for us in regards to our security, and well being? I am not saying that the world does not provide things that help us to survive, and get along in this world. But there is much that is fickle, and unpredictable. You cannot depend upon the world to provide that lasting satisfaction and peace, even in the midst of conflict and trial.
As Christians we can walk through this world with confidence and peace, because we are in Christ Jesus. As Paul says;, "we have died (to the world) and our lives are hidden with Christ in God." No matter what happens, Jesus has us, now and for all eternity. Can the world say that? Can the world say that they have utmost security in this life?
There is a phrase that is a play on the concept of mind over matter.
"If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." This comes from a quote from Mark Twain. In regards to age: "Age is an issue of mind over matter.
If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."
Can we not apply this phrase to the things of this life. If we don't mind (or worry, or be over concerned with) the things of this world, why does it matter? What does matter is what we have in Jesus Christ. Since the things of the world were made by our Lord, He will use those things to benefit our lives.
But we can know something that the world cannot know unless they submit their lives to Jesus Christ. That..."neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39) If in all our life situations, trials, etc.,we mind this most of all, than indeed, what else really matters? GP
