All Authority

"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth."
(Matthew 28:18a)

I remember watching a movie entitled: "Time Changer" staring D. David Morin (Bible Professor Russell Carlisle) and Gavin Macleod (colleague Dr. Norris Anderson). I don't want to give out the story line, that I might spoil your interest in viewing this movie. The theme of this movie is to challenge us in seeing the importance of recognizing and submitting to the authority and Lordship of our Lord Jesus Christ. (See Christianbook.com or Amazon.com)

The statement that Jesus made in our text, prior to the giving of the "Great Commission" is a statement that not only we as Christians must take seriously, but that of the whole world.

A day is coming says the apostle Paul in Philippians 2:9-11 "Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (NKJV) This passage of Scripture, as well as our text verse, answers the question: "Who is to be in charge of our lives; the Lord Jesus Christ, or us?

Who says we cannot do what we want to, in regards to the various thoughts, actions, and events in our lives? The world does not want to be in submission to the Lord Jesus Christ. All through time we have seen this. And today, nothing has changed.

A couple gets married, and starts a family, but do they ask the Lord how He would want their marriage to be; or how He would want them to raise their children? Are the goals they set for their marriage, and for their family, directed by the Lord, or by them? If it is selfish goals, instead of divine directed goals, they will be standing on sinking sand.
If we go on what we want to do, instead of what the Lord wants us to do, what will the outcome be?

Jesus makes another statement that drives home the need for us to be accountable to our heavenly Father: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." (Luke 7:21) Yes, for salvation, we are to do the will of our heavenly Father, and accept His Son Jesus as our Savior.
But also for us to have the best results in life, we are to submit to the authority and Lordship of Jesus Christ. No one knows what we need better than He does.

In order to have the best life we can have, we should take advantage of the best resource there is. Even in the midst of trial and tragedy, it is better to have our trust anchored to the Lord Jesus Christ. We won't have the peace we seek after, if we don't! We are not to trust in ourselves, but in the Lord.

I encourage you to watch the movie: "Time Changer" and ask yourself, where are you in your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ? GP
