"Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:28)
This is our Lord's words, in His Olivet Discourse. He spoke of the events that would take place up until the time of His return.
But even though there will be a number of negative events that will take place, prior to His return, He tells us how we are to be prepared: "...straighten up, and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."
In essence Jesus is saying, that when He comes, He will deliver His people from all of the grievances of what they will be dealing with in the world. It will be a time great challenge, and yet a time of great victory, when Jesus returns.
You ask, how does this apply to me today? We are to always be expecting the Lord to return at any time. But while we wait, let us take comfort in His words to us. Today, in our own troubles, we can ..."straighten up, and raise our heads." to the Lord, knowing that He will (in His time) deliver us from our trouble. He will help us to find and answer, a solution to the problems.
He will deliver our hearts from the great anxiety, and place there a "peace that surpasses comprehension" (Phil.4:7)
Yes, things will get better. We need to believe that the Lord will never leave us, or forsake us. That just as He is ultimately coming again to take His people home to heaven with Him, He will always show up today, and bring victory to our lives. GP
