"let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity." (1 Timothy 4:12)
"
A little boy said to his mother, "Can I go outside and help Daddy put snow chains on the car? I know all the words." Always remember that those who come behind you are copying you." (Ministry 127)
Young Timothy received the words, that all church leaders need to hear, and heed today. To me it is appalling the attitude, and actions of those in Christian leadership today. The arrogance, and selfishness is so dominant in our churches today, that its no wonder our churches are in decline. Who wants to place themselves under the care of people who only care about themselves. You say, that's pretty strong words. I say, it's about time the truth be heard.
As Christian leaders, our speech, our conduct, our love for the brethren (even those who are difficult to love) our faith, and our purity, is to show the character of our Lord Jesus Christ, in every word, and move, we make.
If those who are following us, cannot see Christ in us, just what kind of example are they copying?
With Jesus, it was (and is) always a concern for others. As Christian leaders, is that the way it is with us?
A true statement: "They won't care, how much you know, until they know how much you care!" GP
