Who Is The Boss?

"And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all."
(Ephesians 1:22-23)

When I worked for a large department store, as a door greeter, I was under the management's supervision. In other words: "They were the boss."

The Apostle Paul instructs the Christians at Ephesus (and us) that Jesus Christ is the "Head" of the church. If you want to say that "Jesus is the boss of the church" you would be right.

Our Lord Jesus Christ not only has headship over all of creation, but over the fellowship of believers as well. That being the case, why do we as followers of Jesus, keep trying to place ourselves on the throne, where Jesus rightfully belongs? If there is one thing that has really hurt the church, it is the many, many power struggles that have done massive damage to the unity of the Christian community. As Christians, if we would all try to have the "Mind of Christ", and seek the best for others, how different our Christian communities would be.

After Jesus told His disciples that someone would betray Him,
"They began to question among themselves, which of them it me be would do this. Also a dispute arose among them as to which of them was considered to be the greatest." (Luke 22:23-24) I can understand the concern over the betrayer, but to argue over who was the greatest, was childish, and very immature. But before we throw stones at the disciples, how often does this type of competition take place in the church? Our enemy Satan would like it to happen more than it does.

When Jesus washed the disciples feet (John 13) He gave them (and us) an example to follow. When our focus is totally on how we can be a blessing to others, the pursuit for power and position will dissipate.
Who is the boss? It's Jesus, not us! GP
