"And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it." (Matthew 28:2)
There was only one way, the stone at the entrance of Jesus' tomb could have rolled away. Heaven came down and rolled that stone away. And that's exactly what happened: "an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it." (Matthew 28:2b)
That stone weighed an enormous amount, and what would have taken a lot of man-power, to place that stone in it
s place, and secure it; the power of God given to this angel, had no trouble rolling it away. When the angel finished, it says that he "sat on it." We get the impression, that it was no trouble whatsoever.
When I think about the stone, I think about our problems and difficulties in life. They are like stones that we wish could be rolled away, so we could walk out of our tomb of despair, with a feeling of victory.
In all that our Lord Jesus suffered, He never lost hope. He knew what His suffering, death, and resurrection, would mean for us. He is such a great example for us. In all of our trials, we need to trust that our Lord Jesus will help us, in His way, and in His time, to roll our stones of trouble away.
And in all of the suffering that we do, we need to remember: "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." (Romans 8:37) GP
