"And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
(Romans 5:5)
Are you a hopeful person? Do you always feel that there will be better times ahead, or are you overwhelmed with disappointment?
Just about the time I get feeling good about life, and my future, a trial comes along that just knocks that good feeling right out of my heart. Been there?
If we are counting on the circumstances of life to guarantee a constant hope, think again. There is no reality of ideal circumstances all the time. At least not in this life.
The hope that I try to hold on to is found in two things in our text.
First of all my hope is found in God's love. The world can come crashing down around me, and yet I am supported by the fact that God loves me. He sent His Son to die for my sins, and He will be with me in all of my life's pursuits and failures.
And the second thing that sustains my hope, is the Holy Spirit, who guides me (If I will let Him) in the way the Lord wants me to go.
I trust in His leading, and in His enabling me, to do what I do for Him.
No doubt life is, and will always be, disappointing.
But God is faithful, and what He promises is true.
In this we can be hopeful! GP
