"... who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”(Acts 1:11)
As they watch Jesus ascend into the clouds, I am sure the apostles reflected on their time with Jesus, and the memories came flooding back. From the time when Jesus called them, to this moment of His ascension, they had been through a lot with Him. They remembered leaving their nets to follow Him, the moments of teaching, ministry, and the miracles. the fearful moments during Jesus arrest, death, burial, and resurrection. And now as they stand and watch Jesus leave, one would have concluded that this was the end. But in reality, this was the very beginning. In a matter of days, the first church would be established, and the world would be turned upside down for Jesus. How wonderful to know that we are apart of this on-going ministry today. The goal is still the same. We are to be witnesses for Christ,(1:8) testifying that He is our Savior, and that we want people to make Him their Savior too.
If Jesus had stayed in the grave, than it would have been the end to everything. But the grave was empty. He showed Himself alive with "many infallible proofs"(1:3) He is alive today, walking in the midst of the churches, helping us to have a vibrant ministry, to reach people for Him. As they got involved back then, we need to get involved today! GP
