Dealing With The Thief

"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."(John 10:10)

I have heard it said that:"There are more people down and depressed during this time of year, than any other." Is it because we have allowed the Devil to steal our joy and peace? The fear of facing the challenges of a new year, can be overwhelming; and Satan is hoping that it is. In our text, Jesus really pins down the purpose for His coming into the world. He came to bring us abundant life. This life is filled with the promises of God that we find in His Word. 

The most important promise, is the promise of eternal life. (John 3:16) The second precious promise is; "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." (Psalm 23:1) Because Jesus is our Savior, and our Shepherd, we have the promise of an abundant life. Although this life is difficult, and the Lord never said that it wouldn't be. We can face the sun, and say to ourselves, we have a bright future that awaits us. And having fellowship with the Lord as we walk through" the valley of the shadow of death",(Psalm 23:4) is a wonderful blessing. 

I have said this to people who have been struggling with the work of Satan in their lives. "When Satan reminds you of your past, and makes you feel down and depressed about your present situation, just remind him of his future, because he doesn't have one! GP
