More Than We Ask Or Think
"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us." (Ephesians 3:20)
"God is looking for people through whom He can do the impossible. What a pity that we plan only the things we can do by ourselves.”—A. W. Tozer
"One New Year’s Day, in the Tournament of Roses parade, a beautiful float suddenly sputtered and quit. It was out of gas. The whole parade was held up until someone could get a can of gas. The amusing thing was this float represented the Standard Oil Company. With its vast oil resources, its truck was out of gas. Even though Christians have access to God’s omnipotence, if we do not avail ourselves to it we will run out of power." (Ministry 127)
In the passage of Scripture, where the verse for our text is found, it is clear that the apostle Paul prays that the Christian's at Ephesus will grow in their faith, and be rooted and grounded in love. He shares with the Christians at Ephesus, and us, that we have access to the greatest power in the universe. God can accomplish in and through us, more than we can ask or think.
As I write this Post-Article I think about local churches that have a very small frame of mind when it comes to what can be accomplished through the lives of their members. It is more than just Sunday worship attendance, and slipping some money in the offering plate. It is working to be strengthened in our inner person by the Holy Spirit, by the Word of God, and consistent prayer. It is being rooted and grounded in love.
In essence it is a constant walk of faith, and love in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a strengthening of our inner person, so as to have the ability to exhibit strongly the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
To have the confidence to boldly live the Christian life, and to be effective in Christian service.
And when it comes to evangelism and personal ministry, with God's power we can make a wonderful difference in the lives of others.
We can be involved in areas of Christian service that will turn the world upside down for Jesus Christ.
We should feel like Isaiah when seeing a vision of God, he heard these words: "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, Here am I! Send me" (Isaiah 6:8)
The word "Can't" should not be in the Christian's vocabulary.
If God enables us, there is no reason why we should limit ourselves;
no matter what we as individuals, or the church is called to do.
As Paul said of his own ability: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13) GP
