"Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, "Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in deepest depths or in the highest heights." But Ahaz saidm
"I will not ask: I will not put the Lord to the test." (Isaiah 7:10-11)
Talk about an arrogant and stubborn spirit!
Ahaz, God wants to give you a sign of His providential and protective work, and you say, "I will not ask God for a sign." In essence King Ahaz, you are saying: "God I don't need your involvement in this at all!" Two nations are coming against you O king of Judah. (Aram and (Isreal northern kingdom) and you don't want God's help at all?
Are we any different today? King Ahaz got his sign anyway, and it was the greatest sign ever given to man-kind. "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." (Isaiah 7:14)
Not just King Ahaz, but the whole world received the sign of the coming Savior. The Lord Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, would come to rescue the world of sin and eternal destruction.
But today, we are like King Ahaz, we don't want this sign. It doesn't mean anything to us. We're comfortable with our condition of sin, and our journey to hell.
The Hebrew writer asks: "For if the message spoken by angels was binding and every violation and disobedience received it's just punishment, how will we escape if we ignore such a great salvation." (Hebrews 2:2)
Without Jesus Christ, the world will not escape the penalty of sin, and the punishment of eternal death. We won't get out of this world without a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
Do we need a Savior? Indeed we do. Embrace the sign, receive Jesus Christ as Savior, and live in victory today, and forever! GP
