"I passed by the field of the sluggard And by the vineyard of the man lacking sense, And behold, it was completely overgrown with thistles; Its surface was covered with nettles, And its stone wall was broken down. When I saw, I reflected upon it; I looked, and received instruction.
"A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest," Then your poverty will come as a robber And your want like an armed man." (Proverbs 24:30-34)
No matter if it's a field, or a garden; If someone neglects the ground for a productive harvest of goods, it will be overgrown with weeds, thistles, nettles, and variety of worthless plants.
There is a very strong spiritual lesson here. As Christians, are we really working on having our spiritual heart (garden) to be the best it can be. Are we concerned about having strong spiritual health, or are just folding our hands to rest, and allowing spiritual poverty to be a reality.
We profess to follow the guidance of the Word of God, yet spend no time reading, and applying it to our lives. Just going to church is not enough. A lot of Christians today, look at going to church as a social activity, where they can show off what they have, and spend more time socializing than praying together, and being in God's Word together for spiritual sustenance.
If we are not individually (and together) sowing and applying God's good seed in our hearts, we will be vulnerable to Satan's attempt to get a foot-hold in our lives. Once seeds of selfishness, doubt, and pleasures of sin, enter, it's very hard to pull those overgrown weeds out of our thought-life.
From a thought, to an action, and from an action, to a regret.
If people were honest instead of prideful, would they admit the many regrets they have, because of wrong choices?
We all have spiritual gardens. The choice is ours. We can allow them to be overgrown with the weeds of this world. Or we can sow, and cultivate the Word of God. We can be blessed with every spiritual blessing God has for us (Ephesians 1:3)
Look at the photo above. Does your spiritual heart (garden) look like this? If so, it's time for a change! GP
