"But as He who called you is Holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written "Be holy, For I am Holy."
(1 Peter 1:15-16)
A footnote in the NIV Study Bible explaining the meaning of "Holiness" in
1 Peter 1:16 says" "To be holy is to be set apart - set apart from sin and impurity, and set apart to God." Another definition of "Holiness" from a Bible Dictionary says:
"A separation to God, and conduct fitting for those separated."
It comes down to a choice doesn't it? A choice between living a life of self-gratification, or living a life that completely honors God, in everything we say and do.
But some will ask: "Why can't we live the way we want to? Why do we have to completely live our lives to honor God? You don't! The choice is yours. But just keep in mind, that what God offers is way better than what the world offers.
Living for the world has earthly and eternal consequences.
From Psalm 37:37-38 David says
"Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright: for the future of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together."
You can chose to live the way you want to. But the better path to travel, as we go through this life, is the path that leads to heaven.
The path of eternal riches, instead of worldly disappointments.
And even in the midst of trials, we can have peace, and hope for the future, because of what Jesus, God's Son brought to us, when He came to this world. So I encourage you to chose the path of "holiness" being set apart to be God's child for all eternity.
It is a far cry from experiencing the despair, and destruction of this world. GP
