"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive a reward of the inheritance; for your serve the Lord Christ." (Colossians 3:23-24)
A lot in what we do, as far as our work, has to do with attitude. What is our response to a job that we thought we would like, only to find that it is a disappointment.
We were called to do an unpleasant task, and find ourselves grumbling and complaining the whole time we're doing it.
In our text the Apostle Paul confronts this type of response to difficult jobs and duties, by saying: "And whatever you do, do it heartily"
In other words, don't do it halfheartedly, but give it your best. We are to always be at our best. A positive approach to an unpleasant task, will always speak well of us, and maintain a good relationship with our employer, or those who we serve.
Paul goes on to say that in all that we do, let it be, "as to the Lord, and not to men," Ultimately we are to please the Lord, and represent Him in all that we do. Yes, we are responsible to those we work for, but most of all we are to be faithful servants for the Lord.
Paul concludes by saying that we are to remember that "from the Lord (we) will receive a reward of the inheritance." Paul is saying that the Lord will reward us for our faithfulness in serving. An inheritance is awaiting us, when this life is over, and we go home to experience all that the Lord has for us.
So in all things we are called to do, let's do it with all of our heart, and with a heart of gladness. God will certainly be pleased with us, as well as those around us! GP
