"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things." (Philippians 4:8)
What goes through our minds when we go through various trials?
I would hope that in spite of the problems, we would focus on our blessings, and give thanks to God, for His goodness to us. But someone might say:"let's get real!, you mean to tell me that when trials come, people really do that?" The answer is "Yes!" They can, and do!"
A good example is the man who wrote the words in our text.
Here he is, a prisoner in Rome, and being a prisoner was not the best of circumstances. But yet this letter to the Christians at Phillippi is filled with positive encouragement. He encourages his readers then, and us today, to meditate on the things that are positive, even in the midst of negative situations.
If the Apostle Paul could do it, we can do it. What is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, things of virtue, and things that are praiseworthy.
Yes, it is easy to get very disgruntled over the trials that come, and the problems that surround us.
But Paul knew (as we should remember) that God is still on the throne, and He has our best interests at heart. So in all things, that's stay positive.
Let's stay focused on God, and His blessings and promises.
We will never go wrong doing that! GP
