Honoring The Memory of The Victims of 9/11 "Never Forgotten"
The September 11 attacks (also referred to as September 11, September 11th, or 9/11) were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks launched by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda upon the United States in New York City and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks killed almost 3,000 people and caused at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damage. (Wikipedia) I wanted to write an article to honor the memory of the victims of this horrible event, as well as share a Scripture concerning being an ongoing influence upon this world. I want to say in this article, that we will never forget, (nor should we ever forget) the sacrifices that all of the victims made. Even though we do not know the names of the families who lost loved ones that day, we lift them up to the Lord, and ask that He continue to comfort and strengthen them everyday of their lives. In Mark 14:1-11, at the house of Simon the leper, a woman (Mary, sister of Martha and Lazarus) came in and anointed Jesus' head with expensive oil that was worth a years wages. She was criticized for doing this, and told that the money could have been used to help the poor. Jesus responds by saying: "For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always." (v.11) Mary wanted to anoint Jesus in preparation for His death and burial, and that was more important than feeding the poor. Jesus closed the scene with these words concerning Mary: "Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her."(v.13) We never know when an opportunity will come to make a difference in this life. In service to others, whether in suffering, or in death, we rise to the occasion. And we hope that in all that we do, that it will make an impression for good, that will never be forgotten. (GP)
