Respect & Responsibility

"For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation to everyone who believes, for the Jew first, and also for the Gentile." (Romans 1:16) Lately we have been hearing words of criticism concerning faith and religion from the political arena. America is made up of several religions.     As people have immigrated to this country, they brought their religious beliefs with them. This has been welcomed. As an American citizen, you have the right to worship, and practice your faith here, alongside the diversity of other religions and faith groups.
The question came up this week, whether a Muslim could become president? The Constitution allows it:*"Article VI, paragraph 3 of the Constitution states: "The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States." (*About News) But what must be remembered is that many of the early Americans practiced the Christian faith, and saw their goal as propagating the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The various charter documents of the American Colonies attest to this. I believe that we should be true to what the Constitution allows, and be respectful. But I also believe that we need to be responsible to the continued task, of preaching the Gospel, so people of all color, race, nationality, and religious persuasion, can have an opportunity to hear the Gospel, and accept Jesus Christ as Savior, and Lord of their lives.
