I want to focus on the freedom we have to love one another, and in so doing, satisfy the law of God.
I read this comment this week: "The closer we get to God, the closer we will get to one another" The key word, and the greatest gift (the Apostle Paul tells us) is love.
To me the reason there was the giving of the law, was that man-kind needed a code to guide his heart and life, because of his selfish intentions and motivations. Too much of the time our actions are motivated by our selfishness. If we would constantly think of others, and operate out of love for others, how much different our lives would be. I know, because I am paying the price for my selfishness.
Closeness comes, when love is reciprocated. When we have a mutual love and care for each other, we establish and maintain a closeness that will endure for a life-time.
As we draw near to God this Christmas season, may He help us to draw close to one another.
"Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." (Philippians 2:3-4) GP
