Do You Hear What I Hear?

"...But the Lord was not in the wind, and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake, a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire, and after the fire a still small voice."
(1 Kings 19:11c-12)

"Do You Hear What I hear?" is a song written in October 1969 with lyrics by Noel Regney and music by Gloria Shayne. The pair married at the time, wrote it as a plea for peace, during the "Cuban Missile Crisis." Regney had been invited by a record producer to write a Christmas song, but he was hesitant due to the commercialism of Christmas. It has sold tens of millions of copies and has been covered by hundreds." (Wikipedia)

In the midst of this worldly noise we hear today; the arrogant, selfish, shouting and screaming, the noise of disagreement and division; the noise of commercialism and materialism, the groans of discouragement and despair; do we hear the voice of God?

Like Elijah, in our text , can we stand before this mountain of worldly noise, and hear the voice of God? I believe we can if we position our minds to receive what God has for us to hear. And the greatest message God wants us to hear is this: "For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:11)

Along with the world, you and I have a Savior. Do we need saving today? By the noise we are hearing today, it seems we don't need anyone but ourselves. But look at the mess we are in as a society today.

We need a Savior today, as much as when Jesus first came into this world. We need Jesus to save us from our sins, from ourselves, and deliverance from the challenges we face on a daily basis.

I believe that we can hear the voice of God, if we open up God's Word, and daily take in, the spiritual food we need for each day. "He who has ears to hear, let them hear." (Matthew 11:15) GP
