About The Future
There is a quiet but profound truth found in the words of the apostle John: “And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:17). Those words speak directly to one of the deepest questions people carry in their hearts—What will my future hold? It’s a question asked in moments of uncertainty, in seasons of change, and sometimes in the stillness of the night when worries rise to the surface.
Many people wish they could look into some kind of crystal ball and see what tomorrow will bring. They imagine how comforting it would be to know the twists and turns of life ahead of time. Yet God, in His wisdom, chose not to give us that ability. He knew that if we could see the exact details of our future—especially the day and hour when our earthly life would end—our days would be filled not with peace, but with anxiety, fear, and despair.
Instead of giving us the ability to see the future, God gave us something far better: the ability to trust Him with it. While we cannot know what tomorrow holds, we can know the One who holds tomorrow. And that changes everything.
The apostle John reminds us that this present world, with all its desires, distractions, and temptations, is temporary. It is passing away. The things people chase—status, possessions, pleasures, recognition—may shine brightly for a moment, but they fade just as quickly. They cannot offer lasting security, lasting joy, or lasting hope. They are temporary answers to eternal questions.
But John also gives us a promise: “Whoever does the will of God abides forever.” That is where real hope begins. Doing the will of God is not about checking off religious boxes or trying to earn His approval. It begins with one essential step—establishing a saving relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. Without Jesus Christ, there is no lasting future. With Him, there is eternal life, eternal joy, and eternal peace. When we place our lives in His hands, we are not simply preparing for a better tomorrow—we are preparing for forever.
Planning for a bright future does not mean knowing every detail of what lies ahead. It means choosing whom we will trust as we walk into the unknown. When we choose Christ, we choose a future that cannot be taken away. The world cannot promise us a bright future. It can offer moments of happiness, but it cannot offer lasting hope. It can offer temporary comfort, but it cannot offer eternal security. In this life, Jesus Himself told us we would face trouble. But He also told us that in Him, we would find peace. That peace is not fragile. It does not depend on circumstances. It does not rise and fall with the changing tides of life. It is anchored in the eternal love and faithfulness of God.
When we place our lives with Christ now, we are choosing to abide with Him forever. There is no greater future than that. The world may pass away, but the promises of God stand firm. The desires of this world may fade, but the joy found in Christ endures. The uncertainties of life may trouble us, but the hope we have in Jesus remains steady and strong. In Him we find joy that lifts the heart, peace that calms the mind, and hope that brightens every step of the journey.
So while we may never know exactly what tomorrow holds, we can know this: if our lives are anchored in Jesus Christ, our future is secure. Our eternity is bright. And our hope is unshakable. It truly doesn’t get better than this.
